Our health can be eroded or supported by our circumstances and our surroundings. Consequently designing for health requires creating places that support people to stay healthy as well providing them with the places they need to go when they are unwell. At the heart of our philosophy is a belief in creating places that make healthy choices the more appealing choices. In this way when people do the things they want to do or need to do, they are incidentally choosing to do them in ways that are healthier. This means, amongst other things creating places that make walking preferable and not just possible, enabling people to engage with one another and ensure health care is delivered in environments that are safe, comfortable, appealing and do not add the burden of stigma to the burden of illness.
